PENTECOST
The Jewish feast of harvest celebrated 50 days after the Passover (Le 23:15-21). Pentecost means fifty. It is also called feast of weeks (Ex 34:22), feast of harvest (Ex 23:16), and day of first fruits (Nu 28:26). This feast was a picture of the coming of the Holy Spirit 50 days after Christ's death (Ac 2:1-4). On that day God reaped the firstfruits of His great worldwide harvest (Ro 8:23; Jas 1:18). The Lord Jesus Christ prophesied that the Holy Spirit would come to empower the churches for world evangelization (Ac 1:8). That is what happened on Pentecost 1,900 years ago. It was a one-time event; it has not been repeated because it does not need to be repeated.Tropic Beauty I Framed Art Print by Joel Giovanni, 28.70 in. x 32.95 in. Framed

The Holy Spirit having come, there is no more need for additional Pentecosts. The word since then is not for the churches to seek Pentecosts, or to seek the Holy Spirit, but to yield to that Spirit who has been received in Christ (Ro 8:9-14; 1Co 12:13; Eph 1:12-14; 5:18).
II. The Great Confounding of These Jews:
A. Spirit Filled Witnesses Acts 2:1-4 ~ Emboldened and Empowered by the Spirit!
This is the Promise! Ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost in come upon you!
This was the Plan! (Acts 1:4) …wait for the promise of the Father
(Luke 24:49) …tarry ye until ye be endued with power!
This is the Pattern for us! Our emboldening and empowerment must be God!
B. Speaking of Tongues Acts 2:4-13 *The miraculous expression of the message of God!
Note: These were known languages "every man…in his own language"
These were known messages "we hear the wonderful works of God"
These were knowing/discerning hearers "devout Jews"
This confounded the Jews and got their attention, but saved no one!

III. The Great Confrontation of the Gospel:
A. Peter's Preaching: (Acts 2:14-36) Peter's Preaching to these Jews:
This was a religious audience, they were familiar not only with the Scriptures but also with the events surrounding the name called Jesus that many claimed was the Christ! Though they were familiar with the Scriptures and were devout in their Judaism, these were still very lost, Christ rejecting individuals. Peter would preach the gospel to the, starting with their experience and then to the Scriptures, each time pointedly expounding their guiltiness before God and Jesus as the Christ sent to save them!
1. (Acts 2:14-21) Gave Explanation ~ Scriptural explanation of (Joel 2:28-32)
2. (Acts 2:22-24) Gospel by Experience ~ "He preached the Gospel to them, from their experience "among you, in the midst of you, as ye yourselves know…"
He declared: the Demonstration (among them,in the midst of them)
the Determination (determinate counsel and determined hands)
the Condemnation (Ye have taken by wicked hands)
3. (Acts 2:25-36) Gospel by Exposition ~ He the preached the Gospel a second time, this time, expounding it to them from the Scriptures (Psalm 16:8-11)
He declared: The Demonstration (David spake of the resurrection of Christ)
The Determination
The throne of David over Israel (their King)
The triumph of Christ over Corruption (their Cleansing)
The expectation of Christ over enemies (the Conqueror)
The exclamation of Lord and Christ! (the Christ)
The Condemnation "whom ye crucified"
B. People's Petition: (Acts 2:37)
Their hearts were pricked ~ Conviction
Their Pleas were offered ~ Men and brethren what shall we do?
C. Peter's Invitation: (Acts 2:38-39)
*Notice Peter preached the gospel to these folks, repeatedly, pointedly, and relevantly to the need of them to repent and believe. Peter offered no invitation until condemnation was acknowledged: "Men and brethren what shall we do?"
Repent and be baptized…Receive the gift of the Holy Ghost
D. Peter's Exhortation: (Acts 2:40)
Acts 2:40-41 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
E. Powerful Addition (Acts2:41)
Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
